Seven Conversations for a Lifetime of Love

Are you looking to enrich a healthy relationship, revitalize a tired one, or rescue one gone awry? We all want a lifetime of love and support. But sometimes we need a little help.

In Created for Connection, you will be taught and will get to experience a groundbreaking and remarkably successful program for creating stronger, more secure relationships not only between partners, but between us and God. This workshop will have a Christian influence, yet we welcome people of all world-views.

• Would you like to feel closer to your partner?
• Are you tired of arguments that never get resolved?
• Do you ever wonder what your partner really feels?
• Do you sometimes have trouble expressing how you really feel to your partner?
• Do you want to learn a positive approach to strengthening your relationship?

During this event you and your partner will:

• Learn about the science of love and attachment
• Learn how to identify and correct negative cycles of couple interaction
• Learn how to become more open and responsive with one another
• Learn how to fix relational mistakes and create a secure base
• Learn to bond through sex and touch
• Develop your plan as a couple to keep your love alive

Each of the seven sessions in the workshop will include:

• Teaching of the theory and practice of love and the conversation
• Video clips of real couples having the conversation
• Private couple exercises
• Group discussion about the impact of the exercises
• Consultation with an experienced couple’s therapist
• Homework assignments

Facilitators

Ian Verseveldt | Ph.D., R.Psych

Ian is the Director of the Masters of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy program and is an Associate Professor at ACTS of Trinity Western University where he teaches in the area of couple relationships, family function, and the emotional, ethical and skill development of the therapist. He has been teaching at Trinity Western University since 1995.

Ian has been working with individuals, couples and families since 1984.  Ian now specializes in working with couples from an Emotionally Focused Perspective. He is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, supervising students and clinicians in Canada and abroad.  He is a regular invited speaker and supervisor in Latin America where he teaches Emotionally Focused Therapy, Ethical Issues in Professional Practice, and The Self of the Therapist among other topics.

Ian has been married over 30 years and has 5 grown children. He likes to spend time in the wilderness; hiking, and kayaking.

Joshua Kruse | Ph.D., R.Psych.

Joshua is the Pastor of Counselling and Care at Village Church. Part of his pastoral role is in supporting healthy marriages in the church through ministries and counselling. He oversees marriage ministries including Dating for Marriage, Marriage Prep, Marriage Course, and Marriage Retreat. He co-created the Dating for Marriage Ministry and Marriage Retreat Ministry with other pastors from the church and he developed the 6-week Marriage Course which he co-teaches with his wife Rachael.

Joshua is also responsible for running the Counselling Department at Village Church, which includes training and supervising counsellors of varying levels of education and experience. Prior to working at Village Church, Joshua was an Assistant Professor at Trinity Western University in the Psychology department. His passion for coming alongside people to support and guide them in healing along with God’s call into ministry led him to move into full-time pastoral ministry.

In addition, Joshua has a small private practice in Surrey.  In his private practice he focuses his work on individual adults and couples. He works from an Emotion Focused Couples Therapy perspective which he finds gets to the root of couples’ conflicts. Joshua is married and they have 4 children. They enjoy spending time at the lake and doing family cooking challenges at home.
